Peter Prutch, PhD Make Strides in HIV Awareness and Prevention in the Denver Community

The owner of Family Centered Medicine believes nobody is a number. Everyone deserves quality care.“HIV is still a serious condition. The disease, however, is now more manageable. With proper treatment, a patient can live at least 44 years longer than 20 years ago,”
— Peter Prutch, PhD

DENVER, CO, UNITED STATES, March 11, 2015 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Peter Prutch, PhD, a nurse practitioner and owner of Family Centered Medicine, is an advocate for HIV awareness and prevention, working in and for the Denver community. With the FDA approval of TRUVADA, a preventative drug for HIV, Dr. Prutch has seen great results and is reassured the pharmaceutical industry is making impressive advancements to fight this disease.

TRUVADA is indicated in combination with safer sex practices for PrEP to reduce the risk of sexually acquired HIV-1 in adults at high risk. TRUVADA does not cure HIV infection or AIDS.

“We are seeing great results with TRUVADA. Alone the drug is at least 75% effective. With the combined use of condoms and the drug, patients can expect 99% effectiveness,” says Peter.

Peter counsels and treats patients with HIV and those who are at risk for the disease being transmitted to them. He also speaks publically about HIV care to the LGBT community.

“HIV is still a serious condition. However, the disease is now more manageable. Patients are able to live a greater life span. With proper treatment, a patient can live at least 44 years more than 20 years ago,” says Peter.

In addition to serving as an advocate for HIV prevention and awareness, Peter specializes in general adult medicine. His practice opened in 2005. Together with Beth Elliot, Nurse Practitioner, and the rest of his talented staff, Peter treats a very wide range of health care needs.

Peter says, “It is important to know, I am a nurse practitioner, not an MD or DO. One of my goals is to give my patients a feeling of personal care AND give patients as much times as they need. I address all of their issues. Nobody is a number.”

Peter has been a nurse practitioner since 1996. He is a graduate of University of Colorado's Beth El School of Nursing, and he earned his doctorate in education at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. Peter’s PhD dissertation topic was "Understanding the Nature of Medication Adherence Issues with the HIV Infected Patient in the Family Practice Setting". He works his dissertation every day.
